Early Years and Passion for Music
Dr. Shahzad Aasim, born and raised in the picturesque valley of Kashmir, developed a profound love for music at a young age. The enchanting sounds of traditional Kashmiri folk music, along with the melodies of contemporary genres, ignited his passion and shaped his childhood dreams of becoming a musician.

Understanding that pursuing this artistic path would require dedication and commitment, Dr. Aasim made a bold decision. In a remarkable turn, he discontinued his regular studies in the medical stream and enrolled at a prestigious College of Music and Fine Arts. This decision marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey that would blend the worlds of music, sound, and science.

Throughout his academic journey in music, Dr. Aasim achieved remarkable success. He attained the highest level of academic excellence and gained mass recognition as a singer and composer. However, the socio-political turmoil in Kashmir created immense challenges, limiting artistic freedom and youth engagement in music.

Challenges and Resilience
Faced with growing obstacles, Dr. Aasim relocated to Srinagar. Despite personal struggles and environmental turbulence, his passion for music enabled him to establish a strong presence in Kashmiri folk music, earning state and national-level awards.

Yet, a sense of intellectual void persisted. His background in science and deep involvement in music inspired him to explore the scientific dimensions of sound and acoustics, leading him toward research.

Transition to Research
Dr. Aasim founded the Kashmir Advanced Scientific Research Centre (KASRC) at Cluster University Srinagar, envisioning it as a multidisciplinary hub exploring music and science. Under his leadership, KASRC received SIRO recognition from DSIR, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India—becoming the first of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite limited funding and operational challenges, Dr. Aasim continued his research driven by curiosity about the quantum mechanics of sound and its effects on human cognition.

Building Collaborations and Achievements
Dr. Aasim established collaborations with national and international institutions, including IAMM (Germany), Alzheimer’s Association (USA), Society for Neuroscience (USA), and the Indian Academy of Neurosciences.

He currently serves as Principal Investigator in collaborative projects with IHBAS Delhi, CSRI Delhi, SKIMS JVC Srinagar, NIT Srinagar, and GMC Srinagar—enhancing research on music, health, and cognitive behavior.

Contributions to Research
Dr. Aasim has published nearly 15 research papers in reputed journals. His acclaimed work “Music as Medicine” received approval from IAMM (Berlin) and the Society for Neuroscience (USA), highlighting music’s therapeutic potential and global scientific relevance.
