About
I am a dedicated researcher with more than eight years of progressive research experience spanning human nutrition, microbiology, immunology, developmental biology, and functional food development. My academic journey has consistently focused on understanding the complex interactions between diet, microbiota, epithelial tissues, and immune health, with strong relevance to regenerative medicine and translational biomedical research.
During my MSc, I investigated the safety and gut-health effects of probiotics using in vivo mouse models, establishing a strong foundation in host–microbe interactions, microbiology, and experimental animal research. During my PhD, I advanced this expertise through nutritional profiling of pearl millet, isolation and characterisation of indigenous Lactobacilli from traditional fermented dairy foods, and development of an iron- and zinc-enriched fermented food to address micronutrient malnutrition. This multidisciplinary work integrated food microbiology, nutritional biochemistry, probiotics, microbial characterization, antibiotic-resistance profiling, and food safety.
I subsequently completed my postdoctoral research at the Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (inStem), where I investigated how maternal antibiotic exposure influenced neonatal microbiome development and immune maturation, particularly in the genitourinary tract. I used advanced mouse models (Transgenic), timed breeding, developmental-stage analyses, flow cytometry, cell sorting, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, qRT-PCR, single-cell RNA sequencing, organoid models, and Cre-Lox genetic approaches to investigate microbiota–immune interactions and epithelial barrier functions. I also developed approaches for isolating epithelial cells for flow cytometry, imaging, and three-dimensional organoid studies.
My postdoctoral training provided direct exposure to stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, epithelial biology, developmental immunology, microbiology, and advanced cellular and molecular techniques. These experiences have strengthened my ability to investigate tissue homeostasis, host–microbe interactions, immune regulation, and cellular responses using multidisciplinary approaches.
My long-term goal is to establish a translational research program that integrates nutrition, microbiology, immunology, stem cell, and regenerative medicine approaches to understand how dietary and microbial factors influence tissue development, epithelial integrity, immune homeostasis, and disease susceptibility. I believe this interdisciplinary expertise would enable me to contribute meaningfully to the teaching and research environment, particularly at the interface of stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, microbiology, immunology, and nutrition.
