About

Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Salam is a Professor of Microbiology, North Bengal Medical College, Sirajganj, Bangladesh and former Dean, Faculty of Biotechnology & Biomedical Engineering and Inspector of Colleges of Rajshahi Medical University, Bangladesh. He was a Professor of Parasitology, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Kulliyyah of Medicine, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) from August 2019 to July 2024. Before resuming the position at the IIUM, he served two years as Professor & HoD of Microbiology, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura, Bangladesh. He also served two years at the College of Medicine- Jeddah of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, KSA from June 2015 to June 2017 as a faculty in Microbiology. He has served for nearly 18 years as a faculty in Microbiology including 5 years as an Associate Professor at the Rajshahi Medical College, one of the ancient public medical colleges in Bangladesh with avenues for both undergrad and graduate studies. He has earned good medical qualifications in Microbiology & Immunology from both home and abroad with excellent academic achievements. As a national top scorer, he was admitted at the then Institute of Postgraduate Medicine & Research (IPGMR), now the Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) and successfully earned an MBBS degree under Dhaka University in 1987. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Medical Genetics with Immunology from Brunel University, London in 1996, followed by MPhil & PhD in Microbiology from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He has earned nearly two decades of experience in individual as well as collaborative research initiatives and also supervised a good number of students for their Master of Philosophy in Microbiology research. Dr. Salam has published 108 scientific researches (H index 20; Citation: 4806) in renowned peer-reviewed International indexed and national medical journals and co-authored two textbooks on Medical Microbiology and Immunology. In recognition of his outstanding contributions in academia and research, he was awarded Fellowships (highest category of membership) from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2013, which is a rare distinction for a Medical Microbiologist. He is an outstanding academician and internationally recognized researcher in Parasitology/Microbiology with proven outputs. Dr. Salam has given scientific presentations in a number of occasions both at home and International conferences. He has earned a good length of experience as a reviewer in different high impact International medical journals including the Pak J Med Sci, an International peer reviewed impact factor PubMed indexed journal published monthly from Pakistan. Dr. Salam has affiliation/membership with many national and International Professional & scientific organizations. Besides academic and research endeavor, Dr. Salam has been involved for long in practicing laboratory medicine, quality assurance in medical education and mentoring graduate students in Microbiology. His current research interest focuses on Bacterial drug resistance, Medical Education and Cancer immunobiology.
