About
Sayan Kanungo is presently working as an Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. He is also associated with the Materials Center for Sustainable Energy & Environment and Centre for Research Excellence in Semiconductor Technology at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.
He has received his B.Tech and M. Tech degrees from West Bengal University of Technology and Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur in 2008 and 2012, respectively. He has received the Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur in 2017.
He has been elevated to the senior member grade of IEEE in 2021. He has been featured in 2023 World Top 2% Scientist by the Sandford University and Elsevier in Applied Physics sub-field.
He is recipient of the CSIR Senior Research Fellowship and Research Associateship in 2013 and 2018, respectively. He has received the Outstanding Potential in Excellence in Research and Academics (OPERA) grant from BITS-Pilani in 2018 and Start-up Research Grant (SRG) from Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India in 2020. He is the recipient of the Joint PhD Scheme Fundings with the La Trobe University Autralia and RMIT University Australia in 2023, and and Cross-Disciplinary Research Framework (CDRF) research fundings from BITS-Pilani in 2023.
He has been enlisted as Golden Reviewer for IEEE Transaction on Electron Devices from 2018 to 2020, and Trusted Reviewer of IOP for 2020. He has served as the reviewer of reputed journals including Nature Communications, Nature Scientific Reports, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, ACS Applied Energy Materials, ACS Applied Electronic Materials, Wiley Advanced Electronic Materials, Wiley ChemPhysChem, Elsevier Applied Surface Science, Elsevier Journal of Energy Storage, Elsevier FlatChem, RSC Sustainability, RSC Nanoscale Advances, IEEE TED, IEEE TNano, IEEE Sensors Journals, IEEE TNB, and IOP Nanotechnology. As of this date, he has authored more than 60 publications in science citation indexed (SCI) international journals.
As of this date, he has completed the supervision of two doctoral thesis, and six research scholars are pursuing their doctoral research under his supervision.
His current research interests include computational modelling and design of two dimensional crystalline semiconductors for electronic, optoelectronic, energy storage, and sensing applications as well as design and modelling of emerging post-CMOS devices like Naowire FET, Nanotube FET, Nanosheets FET, Tunnel FETs for label free gas-sensing and bio-sensing applications.
