About
Dr. Moumita Chakraborty is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Translational Hepatology Section, Liver Diseases Branch, at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), NIH, Bethesda, USA. A biochemist by training, she has over 12 years of research experience spanning Oncology, Hepatology, and Neuroscience.
Her current work focuses on mitochondrial dysfunction and translational approaches to rare liver diseases. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications, coordinated interdisciplinary projects, and mentored junior scientists.
She earned her Ph.D. in Physiology and Cell Biology from Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, where she studied zinc receptor ZnR/GPR39 signaling in breast cancer progression. She also gained expertise in Glioblastoma biology and earlier conducted Neuroscience research at the National Brain Research Centre, India. Beyond research, she is actively involved in outreach, scientific communication, and professional service. Outside the lab she likes spending time with family and is a travel and photography enthusiast.
