About
I am a wildlife biologist and One Health eco-epidemiologist specializing in zoonotic and vector-borne diseases in remote and challenging environments. I hold a PhD in plague epidemiology from the Universities of Liège and Antwerp (Belgium) and have over 20 years of experience investigating pathogen spillover and wildlife disease ecology at the human-wildlife interface. My multidisciplinary research combines ecological monitoring, parasitology, vector biology, and medical entomology to assess emerging and neglected infectious threats in biodiversity-rich regions. I have led wildlife inventories, epidemic investigations, and One Health capacity assessments across Africa, notably advancing surveillance frameworks for diseases such as plague, mpox, and onchocerciasis-associated epilepsy. As a National Geographic Explorer, I documented isolated chimpanzee populations in forest fragments and post-mining landscapes, informing community-led conservation, reforestation initiatives, improved livelihoods and disease mitigation strategies. My expertise extends to marine conservation, leading coral and mangrove restoration projects in Tanzania, linking ocean and community health. Through mentorship, field-based research, and cross-sector collaborations, I promote evidence-based interventions that restore biodiversity and safeguard public health.
