About
Dr. Jitendra Tahalyani is currently working as an Assistant Professor (Senior Grade 1) in the School of Electronics (SENSE) at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, India. He has academic, research, and industry experience spanning RF and microwave engineering, materials science, nanocomposites, electromagnetic applications, AI/ML and intellectual property (IP) consulting.
Dr. Tahalyani received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) under the guidance of Prof. M. Jaleel Akhtar, IEEE Fellow, and Prof. Kamal K. Kar. He holds a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from The LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT), Jaipur, and an M.Tech. from the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT/DRDO), Pune, where he was recognized as Researcher of the Year (M.Tech) in 2016.
Prior to joining VIT Chennai, Dr. Tahalyani served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology, Pimpri, Pune. He has also worked as a Senior Research Fellow on a DST-sponsored research project at IIT Bombay and previously served as an Assistant Professor at JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur. In addition to his academic and research experience, he has worked as an Associate R&D Patent Consultant at Lumenci, Gurgaon, where he was involved in technology and intellectual property-related research, including patent analysis, EOU, portfolio analysis, RE/Teardown & testing, and claim-chart preparation/PIC.
His research interests lie at the intersection of RF and microwave engineering, nanomaterials, flexible electronics, and electromagnetic applications. His work focuses on the development of flexible, lightweight, and multifunctional nanocomposites for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), microwave/radar absorbers, RF sensing, electromagnetic energy harvesting, sensors, and advanced flexible electronic devices. He is also interested in MXene- and graphene-based nanocomposites, carbon-based materials, metamaterials, optically transparent and self-healing EMI shielding materials, and machine-learning-assisted electromagnetic material design.
Dr. Tahalyani has authored/co-authored more than 25 research publications in international journals, conferences, and book chapters. His research contributions have been recognized through several awards, including the Best Paper Award at IEEE MAPCON 2024, Best Student Paper Award at IEEE ICISAA 2024, 3-Minute Thesis Competition Award at IEEE SPACE 2024, Best Student Paper Award at IEEE MAPCON 2022, and the First Prize in the Ph.D. Student Initiative Category at IEEE MTT-S IMaRC 2021.
He has been actively involved in the IEEE community and has served as a member of the IEEE MTT-S TC-8 RF Nanotechnology Technical Committee since 2021. He also served as the Vice-Chair of the IEEE MTT-S Student Branch Chapter at IIT Kanpur from 2019 to 2020.
With interdisciplinary experience across academia, research, and technology/IP consulting, Dr. Tahalyani aims to develop next-generation solutions by integrating materials science, RF/microwave engineering, flexible electronics, and intelligent computational techniques for advanced electromagnetic shielding, sensing, absorption, and energy-related applications.
