About
Narasimman Palani‒Bioinorganic Chemist.
Researcher in the field of bioinorganic chemistry, with a strong focus on manganese (Mn), iron (Fe) and copper (Cu) chemistry relevant to biocatalysis. Research aims to understand the mechanisms of O2 binding (oxidant), small molecule activation (O2, CO2, H2, CO) and reduction of dioxygen into H2O/H2O2 in nonheme Mn/Fe and Cu metal-based enzymes by designing structural and functional artificial enzyme models that mimic these naturally existing enzyme systems. A key aspect of this research involves capturing and characterizing, highly reactive high-valent Mn, Fe and Cu metal-based oxo (M=O), hydroxo (M-OH), hydroperoxo (M-OOH) and alkylperoxo (M-OOR) intermediates, which are very crucial intermediates in stereoselective biochemical oxidation process. This research contributes to the development of bio-inspired oxidation catalysts for green chemistry applications and provides a deeper understanding of structure-function relationships, offering mechanistic insights at the interface of chemistry and biology across diverse living systems. The mechanistic pathways of these enzymes are studied through using various spectroscopic, theoretical, and chemical techniques to investigate their electronic structures and reactivity behaviors.
