About
Dr. Sourav Mandal is a Principal Engineer at REC Solar Pte. Ltd., Singapore, with over 13 years of experience spanning industrial research and development, advanced solar cell engineering, and academic research. His expertise lies in heterojunction (HJT) and back-contact silicon solar cell architectures, thin-film silicon technologies, and advanced passivation concepts.
He received his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, where his doctoral research focused on oxide and fluorinated amorphous and microcrystalline silicon materials for high-efficiency silicon-based thin-film solar cells. He subsequently held research and faculty positions at IIT Delhi, including as an INSPIRE Faculty Fellow funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Dr. Mandal’s work bridges fundamental materials science and industrial-scale photovoltaic manufacturing, with contributions to process integration, device optimization, and reliability of advanced solar cell architectures. He is an author of more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and an inventor on multiple granted Indian patents and a European patent application. His research contributions have been recognized through international awards, including the Best Poster Award at the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference (EUPVSEC).
