About

I have been actively engaged in basic and applied microbiological research activities, with special emphasis on agricultural and environmental microbiology related research problems.

 My master’s and doctoral research focused on developing bio-fertilizer and bio-fungicide technology for horticultural crops, apple in particular. I had been using culture dependent techniques to isolate and molecularly characterize microbes from soil with abilities to function as nutrient mobilizers, bio-stimulants and antagonists to fungal plant pathogens. The developed microbial bio-formulation was inoculated in apple rhizosphere and population dynamics was studied using BIOLOG and molecular techniques (RAPD and ARDRA).

 Internationally, my research efforts were recognized by British Crop Production Council (BCPC) and I was awarded Certificate of Honour during international conference “Crop World Global 2012” in London, United Kingdom. I was also awarded with FEMS’ Young Scientists Congress Grant for attending the 6th FEMS Congress of European Microbiologists held in Maastricht, Netherlands.

 On national level, the research achievements were published in Annual report of DARE, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Based on my master’s and doctoral research work on development of bio-fertilizer technology for apple, the technology was incorporated into State Package and Practices, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni Solan, India.

 My research assignment (2014- 2016) was as Post-doctoral Research Associate in an Indo-Russian collaborative project (Jaypee University, India and Winogradsky Institute of Microbiology, Russia Academy of Science) focuses on “Elucidating the linkage between key limiting processes and microorganisms during anaerobic degradation of lignocellulosic waste”. The research involved use of culture-independent techniques viz. DGGE/FISH/ metagenomics to study syntrophic consortia of acetogenic bacteria and methanogenic archaea.

 My recent research, as postdoctoral researcher (2016- continuing ), in a CSIR funded project at Central University of Himachal Pradesh focuses on “Biodegradation of profenofos and fenthion pesticides - Role of microbial isolate(s) and determination of degradation pathway(s)”

 Visiting research scientist at Microbiology Laboratory of anthropogenic Habitats, Winogradsky Institute of Microbiology, Russia Academy of Science, Moscow.

 Visiting Guest Faculty St. Bede’s College, Himachal Pradesh University.
