About

Anup completed his bachelor's in chemistry from Midnapore College in 2009. In the year 2011, he graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati) with an M. Sc. in Chemistry. During his master's study, he worked on Lewis’s acid-catalyzed stereoselective organic synthesis to develop biologically important complex heterocycles under the supervision of Prof. Anil Kumar Saikia, Department of Chemistry, IIT-Guwahati. He qualified both NET (All India rank-42) and GATE (All India rank-72) in 2011.
Afterward, he joined the group of Prof. Akkattu T. Biju at the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory Pune as a Ph.D. student. There, he was working on his Ph. D. thesis entitled ‘Transition-Metal-Free Carbon-Carbon and Carbon-Heteroatom Bond Forming Reactions using N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysis and Aryne Chemistry’. He was awarded the Eli Lilly and Company Asia Outstanding Thesis Award for his doctoral research.
Soon after that, he moved to Münster as an Alexander von Humboldt to start his post-doctoral studies under the supervision of Prof. Armido Studer at the Organisch Chemisches Institut, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, where he was involved in several research projects on organometallics, catalysis, and radical chemistry. His main research in Münster has involved in designing new reagents for gas-free synthetic transformations with improved stereoselectivity.
In April 2021, he joined the Department of Chemical Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata) as a Ramanujan Fellow to start his independent research career. At IISER Kolkata, he works on redox catalysis based on solid-state (mechanochemistry) radical chemistry, electrochemistry, and photochemistry.

In June 2024, he joined the IIT Hyderabad as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry
