About

Prof. Subha Srinivasan has a PhD from the Centre of Advanced Study in Biophysics, University of Madras. Before joining IBAB she was founder and CEO of Jivan Biologics, a start up company that specialized in microarray services for alternative splicing. She has secured US patents for a method to analyze percent composition of splice-variants in a given sample (7,833,779, 7,340,349). Prior to this Subha headed the bioinformatics unit at Berlex Biosciences, a fully-owned subsidiary of Schering AG. She also has 10 years of experience at Immunex, a Seattle-based biotechnology company where she was hired to head the molecular modeling group, later assuming the responsibility of setting up a bioinformatics core facility. During this time, she secured several US patents for engineering active soluble form of CD40L (5,962,406, 5,981,724, 6,264,951, 6,290,972, 6,410,711). Prior to this she was a visiting scientist at IDEC, a anti-idiotypic antibody company. During her postdoc at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, NY, she has developed methods for which she was awarded US patent (7,340,349, 7,833,779). Her research areas include protein structure prediction, gene discovery, alternative splicing, microarrays, application of next generation sequencing in agriculture and human diseases and AI/ML in funcrional genomics. After securing a Reentry Fellowship from DBT in 2009 for establishing BioIT expertise in India, she has built a master's curriculum for training in NGS data analysis at IBAB since 2010 and has trained more than 500 students. In her words "IBAB opportunity has been her retirement gift from India at the age of 60 and she cannot overstate the fulfillment it is offering".
