About

I have been serving as a Scientist (Biotech) at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Warangal from 2014 to till date, in various capacities and possess more than 12 years of experience (2 years 3 Months at Agri Biotech Foundation (ABF) and 6 years at Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR) as an Agricultural Biotechnologist in marker-assisted selection of rice and extensive experience in hybrid rice breeding.
As a Lead breeder/scientist, contributed to the release of 1st Biotechnology Product from PJTSAU released through CVRC during 2022 i.e. WGL-1487 (Telangana Vari-8): alow soil phosphorous (P) tolerant rice variety developed in the background of MTU 1121, and it is a medium duration (130-135 days), high-yielding (7.0-7.5 t/ha), medium slender grain type rice variety with good cooking quality traits, showing resistant to BPH and Moderately Resistant to Blast and Recommended for irrigated areas of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) & Telangana States, and also
As a Lead breeder/scientist, contributed to the release of 1st Biotechnology Product from PJTSAU released through SVRC during 2023 i.e. WGL 1119 (IET27868) (Warangal vari 1119) and is resistant to gall midge (Biotype 1, 3 and 4m) and moderately resistant to neck blast with good cooking and eating quality traits.
Contributed to the release of short duration, high yielding and Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) Resistant Greengram variety i.e. WGG-42 (Yadadri), and two High yielding Redgram varieties WRGE-97, WRGE-255, and also release of 5 high yielding rice varieties like WGL-915, WGL-697, WGL-739, WGL-962, and WGL-1289. His research articles have published >60 research/review papers in high-impact factor journals that are widely read and cited with a citation index of >843 and an h-index of 14 (as of 30th January 2024). https://scholar.google.com/citations? ser=bwBxiW8AAAAJ&hl=en and https://pjtsau.irins.org/myprofile.
My other major contributions include (i) I improved elite hybrid rice parental line KMR-3R and its derived hybrid KRH2 for bacterial blight resistance (Xa21) and fine grain quality; (ii) I improved elite hybrid rice parental line IR 58025B for bacterial blight and blast disease through introgression of Xa21 and Pi-54 resistance genes respectively; (v) Contributed in Tagging and mapping of a new, dominant BB resistance gene (named as Xa33t) from an accession of O. Nivara; (iii) Contributed in deciphering the genetics of BB resistance in the popular BB resistant check variety Ajaya; (iv) Contributed in mapping of two major wide-compatible gene loci S5 and S8 on Chr. 6 using SSR markers (v) Contributed in developing and validation of class I SSR markers targeting (GATA)n repeat motifs in rice. (vi I am serving as a Faculty for the subject of Agricultural Biotechnology especially ‘Marker-Assisted Selection’ at RARS Warangal.
