About
Professor Rajni Kant received Masters' degree in physics in 1983, M.Phil degree in 1984, Ph.D degree in March 1989 from University of Jammu (UoJ), India and Post-Ph.D (1994-95) from Chemical Crystallography Laboratory, University of Oxford, U.K. as DST BOYSCAST Fellow of Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.
Professor Rajni Kant, a Full Professor since 2003 @ UoJ, is an accomplished Small Molecule Crystallographer who has guided 51 M.Phil students and 26 Ph.D students, besides having published 473 research papers in journals of international repute. He has successfully executed 18 research projects as sanctioned by the Indian National Funding agencies like DAE/UGC/CSIR/ ICMR/DST.
His research interests mainly include Preparation of X-ray diffraction quality crystals of medicinally important organic compounds, 3D-structure analysis, Polymorphism in crystals, Analysis of crystal packing effects & hydrogen bonding in solids, Co-crystallization, DFT, etc. He has authored a book namely “Applied Solid State Physics” published by Wiley-India in 2011, besides two monographs published in Germany.
Professor Rajni Kant is a Fellow of Royal Society in Chemistry, London (FRSC), Fellow of Indian Chemical Society (FICS) and Fellow of Science Frontier Research Council of United States Corporation (FSFRC). He served the INSA- National Committee on Crystallography for International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) during 2016-20 and served as Vice-President of ICA (Indian Crystallographic Association) (2019-22) and as PRESIDENT of ICA during 2022-25. He served as Dean of Science faculty @ University of Jammu for three before joining as Dean Research Studies in July 2022. He has served as Vice-chancellor , Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, During 2023-24. He is a Member of the IUCr- Commission of Crystallographic Teaching since September 2023. Presently, he is the Member of International Programme Committee of IUCr for The IUCr-Congress and General Assembly, being held at University of Calgary, Canada, during August 11-18, 2026.
