About

Dr Bhawna Sirohi is the Medical director at BALCO Medical Centre, Raipur. Having qualified as an oncologist from Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai in 1994, she further completed her training at Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, UK. She is a consultant in Medical Oncology specializing in breast and GI cancers. She has more than two decades of experience as an oncologist in the NHS and India. She has published more than 150 papers in national and international journals and lectured worldwide. She is on the Lancet Oncology international advisory board. Her research and education interests center around cancer control in India. She sits on the ASCO committee for health equity and outcomes; & climate change and cancer. She has been part of the steering group of the “Cancer Control in Low- and Middle- Income Countries” conference held annually at the Royal Society of Medicine, London. She is the Secretary of the EBMT Nuclear Accident Committee and as part of this, she involved with the UK Department of Health interdisciplinary Group on clinical care and service configuration following a radiation accident. Dr Sirohi is passionate about training and education of nurses, pharmacists, undergraduate and postgraduate students

Bhawna set up a charity New India Cancer charity Initiative (NICCI) : uniform cancer care. Through NICCI, she has been able to work with ASHA, Mitanin and anganwadi workers in the villages to create cancer awareness. She has been involved in cancer screening camps in various states in India- Chhattisgarh, UP, Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Tamilnadu. She has been involved in the initial setting up of new cancer centres across the country in the private (Max -Delhi, Artemis-Gurgaon, Narayana Health-Bangalore, Mysore, Kolkata) and public sector (Tata Hospital- Sangrur, Mohali). This has enabled her to set up protocols and procedures in place which will help deliver quality and safe care to patients. She chair’s site specific cancer sub-committees for Indian council of Medical research (ICMR) to develop guidelines / consensus statements and is also on their Scientific advisory group. She is deeply involved with charities like cansupport who provide palliative care to patients in their home to avoid aggressive treatment towards the end of life.
