Dr. Jibu Thomas is Professor and Head - Department of Biotechnology at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. Prior to this assignment, he served at various capacities handling Teaching, Research, Academic and Non Academic responsibilities in Karunya for past 11 years. He is a seasoned researcher worked as Scientific Officer at UPASI Tea Research Institute for 8 years after Post Graduation in the fields of Plant Physiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry . Dr. Jibu's Ph.D is awarded in Plant Physiology by Bharathiar University in 2008. He also carried out his Post Doctoral Research under UGC Research Awardee Scheme. He has handled a total of 5 research projects from DBT - Govt of India, SERB - Govt of India, National Tea Research Foundation, UGC and United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA) to a tune of 110 lakhs. At Karunya he was instrumental in coordinating MINDKRAFT (a Prestigious Annual Tech Fest) multiple times.

Dr. Jibu's administrative achievement's include NBA (National Board of Accreditation) recognition for B.Tech Biotechnology and M.Tech Biotechnology Program. He is member of various academic bodies that include Board of Studies, Academic Council, Board of Research, Doctoral Committees, Oral Board for Ph.D viva, etc.. He is an expert in preparing study report/self assessment reports for NAAC, NBA, NIRF, AIIRA, etc. Chairperson for Animal Ethical Committe and Biosafety Committee and is the Member secretary for Human Ethical Research. His current research focus includes Plant genomics and Metabolomics. His lab on Algae Biomass is a unique facility at Karunya (www.algaebiomasslab.com)
