About

K. Venkateswara Swamy is a distinguished academic and researcher with extensive experience in structural bioinformatics, molecular modeling, and drug discovery. Currently a professor at MIT School of Bioengineering Sciences and Research, Pune, he holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Sri Krishnadevaraya University (2010).
Dr. Swamy has held multiple academic and industry roles over his career, including positions as Associate Professor at Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute and Lab Officer at Thyrocare Technologies. He also served as Head and Assistant Professor at Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth’s Biotechnology Department for over six years.
His research specialization includes protein-drug interactions, drug design, molecular dynamics, genomics, and RNA sequence analysis. With over 92 publications and 1,126 citations (h-index: 23), his impactful research spans oncology, infectious diseases, and computational drug design.
He has deposited 32 protein structures into the Protein Model Database and supervised 2 Ph.D. scholars along with 35 student research projects.
Dr. Swamy has led or collaborated on several government-funded research projects, including a DST-WOS-A project on drug-induced kidney injury and a DST-SERB-funded study on PPAR pathway modulators for lung cancer therapy. His consultancy and fast-track projects highlight applied bioinformatics’ role in real-world problem solving.
In recognition of his contributions, he has received several awards including the Kasturba Samshodhan Yuvaratna Puraskar (2019), Research Award by Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (2019), and the Young Scientist Award by ICMPHP, George Washington University (2012). He has served as a visiting faculty at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Dr. Swamy plays an active role in academic quality and institutional governance, contributing to IQAC activities, institutional research committees, and Board of Studies (BOS). As a reviewer for top-tier international journals such as Scientific Reports, Journal of Molecular Modeling, and Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, he remains engaged with global research developments.
He has contributed two book chapters for IGNOU and has ongoing collaborations with prestigious institutions including Wayne State University (USA), Sri Venkateswara University, and Pad. Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth.
Dr. Swamy is a frequent speaker and trainer at national and international conferences and workshops. He has delivered keynote and invited lectures on bioinformatics and drug discovery,
including at Johns Hopkins University and multiple Indian universities. His training credentials span bioinformatics, immunology, and molecular modeling, including hands-on workshops and online modules.

In addition to oral and poster presentations at over 20 national and international conferences, he has demonstrated expertise in public engagement and research dissemination. He has been particularly active in showcasing work at the prestigious NGBT conferences and events organized by CDAC, IISER, and SGRF.
Dr. Swamy’s dynamic career reflects a deep commitment to interdisciplinary research, higher education, and applied biosciences, with a strong emphasis on molecular and computational methods for disease modeling and therapeutic design.
