About
Dr. Rana Roy is a Professor in the Department of Agroforestry & Environmental Science at Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. He has been serving the university since October 2013, beginning his academic career there as a Lecturer. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in October 2015 and later to Associate Professor in December 2020. In recognition of his continued academic contributions and leadership, he was appointed Professor in December 2024. Recently, Dr. Roy has completed his visiting researcher role from Ghent University, Belgium; and postdoctoral fellowship as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at Kiel University, Germany. His academic pursuits led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Northwest A&F University in China, where he dedicated himself from September 2016 to December 2020. Prior to that, he earned his Master of Science in Environmental Science and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Sylhet Agricultural University. Recognized for his exceptional accomplishments, Dr. Roy has received numerous awards and accolades. Notably, he was honored with the Outstanding International Student Award in 2020 by the Chinese Government Scholarship Council. In the same year, he also received the Best Publication Award from Sylhet Agricultural University. His dedication and excellence were further acknowledged with the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) for his Ph.D. studies. Dr. Roy's expertise in the field is evident through his extensive involvement in scientific journals. He has served as an Associate Editor (Global NEST Journal), Editorial Board Member (BMC Plant Biology; Plant Nano Biology); Review Editor (Spanish Journal of Soil Science; Frontiers in Plant Science). Additionally, he has contributed as a manuscript reviewer for several prestigious journals. As an educator, Dr. Roy has taught various undergraduate and graduate courses while supervising and guiding master's students in their thesis work. His research efforts have focused on conducting greenhouse and field experiments in coal-mined degraded areas, with a specific emphasis on revegetation under arid environmental conditions with limited resources. Dr. Roy's contributions to the scientific community are evident through his impressive publication record, which includes 65 research articles, reviews, and book chapters. His work has been published in reputable journals such as Environmental Research, Frontiers in Plant Science, Agricultural Water Management, Journal of Environmental Management, Physiologia Plantarum, BMC Plant Biology, and Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety. His publications have garnered significant citations, with a Google Scholar citation count of 1936 as of 21th February, 2026. Additionally, his work has made a considerable impact, with a total impact factor above 170. Dr. Roy's scholarly influence is reflected in his Google Scholar h-index of 22, i-34 index. In addition to his teaching and research roles, Dr. Roy has taken on various additional responsibilities. He was the Additional Director of the Students Counseling & Guidance Division at Sylhet Agricultural University from April to October 2024. He was also an Executive member of the Teacher's Council in 2022 and held the position of Vice President of the Faculty of Agriculture Students Association from July 2010 to June 2012.
