Dr. Smruti Ranjan Padhan is currently serving as a Scientist (Agronomy) at the Division of Agronomy, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India. He secured All India Rank – 01 in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Examination-2023. Prior to this assignment, he served for a year as a Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) at ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim under ICAR–RCNEH, Umiam, where he worked closely with the farming community through technology dissemination and field-level interventions. Dr Padhan earned his PhD and M.Sc. in Agronomy from the prestigious Division of Agronomy, ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, graduating at the top of his division in both degrees. He holds a B.Sc. (Agriculture) from OUAT, Bhubaneswar, with a consistently meritorious academic record. He achieved AIR-03 in Agronomy in the ICAR–AIEEA–PG (JRF) examination and also qualified the ICAR–AIEEA–Ph.D. (SRF) examination. His research contributions include 45 peer-reviewed research and review articles in reputed national and international journals, along with 23 book chapters and 15 popular articles. His specialization lies in conservation agriculture–based nutrient management in maize-based cropping systems, soil quality index (SQI) development, precision nutrient management in direct-seeded rice, and bibliometric analyses. Dr Padhan’s research impact is reflected in his Google Scholar citations (706), with an h-index of 17 and i10-index of 21. He is presently serving as an Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Agronomy and regularly contributes as a reviewer for several high–impact international journals.
