About
Currently I am working as Assistant Professor (Biotechnology) at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur. Prior to this I was working as Research Associate at National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) New Delhi,India on the topic “Silencing of BAG family genes in tomato through Virus induced gene silencing”. I have completed my Ph.D. work from Synthetic Biology and Biofuel Group, International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi. I did my B.Sc. (Chemistry and Zoology) in 2002 from Shibli National College, Azamgarh, UP and M.Sc. (Biochemistry) in 2008 from the department of biochemistry, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, India. After completion of my M.Sc. program, I have joined the ICGEB, New Delhi as junior research fellow and I focused my research on renewable biofuel sources particularly on algal biodiesel. In Our lab we are screening algal species on the basis of their lipid content and valuable byproduct like α-linolenic acid an essential fatty acid. We are also working on the metabolic engineering of algal species to enhance the lipid content. We have isolated a marine algal species from Indian Ocean having higher lipid. We have characterized this alga through DNA barcode, in which we have used the conserved sequences of chloroplast genome. Recently we focused on the genetic engineering of algal cells. In this sense we have genetically engineered the model organism Chlamydomonas reinhardtii with DGAT2 gene from Brassica napus. We are looking different genes that may impact on the lipid biosynthesis in algae.
