About

Prof. Dr. Amit V. Pandey is a Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Bern, and Group Leader of the Translational Hormone Research Program at the University Children’s Hospital Bern, Switzerland. A distinguished molecular biologist, he specializes in the structural biology, enzymology, and genetics of steroidogenesis and human metabolic disorders.

Professor Pandey obtained his PhD from the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, India, and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) with Prof. Walter L. Miller. At UCSF, he played a pivotal role in elucidating the molecular basis of P450 Oxidoreductase (POR) deficiency and the regulation of androgen biosynthesis by Cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP17A1.

Since establishing his laboratory in Bern in 2007, his research has focused on the "bench-to-bedside" characterization of genetic variations in Cytochrome P450 enzymes and their redox partners. His group employs computational modeling, enzyme kinetics, and cellular assays to understand how genetic mutations drive conditions such as Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and Prostate Cancer. Key contributions include the development of structure-guided inhibitors for CYP17A1 and the discovery of novel pharmacogenomic markers in POR that influence drug metabolism.

Professor Pandey's research is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Cancer Research Switzerland, and major industry partners. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications (H-index 44, >7600 citations) in journals including Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, American Journal of Human Genetics, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM). He has also written authoritative reviews in Pharmacology & Therapeutics, as well for Elsevier Encyclopedia of Endocrinology, and prestigious Books in the field of Endocrinology. He served as the Conference Chair for the 24th International Conference on Cytochrome P450, ICCP450 (2025) and holds editorial positions at Frontiers in Pharmacology, Frontiers in Endocrinology, IUBMB Life, and Endocrine Connections. He is a recipient of the Servier Research Award and the Young Investigator Award from the Swiss Society for Endocrinology & Diabetology.

Research Interests: Molecular Endocrinology, P450 Oxidoreductase (POR), CYP17A1, Prostate Cancer Drug Discovery, Pharmacogenomics, Structural Biology, and Precision Medicine.
