About
I am working as an Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences at Hindu College, University of Delhi. I teach different dimensions of the environment to undergrads and facilitate research activities through projects, and fieldwork. Apart from my interest in the environment as a multidisciplinary subject, I have a keen interest in knowing and understanding teaching and learning pedagogy and andragogy. This is to make my teaching impactful, influential and effective.
As a researcher, I am intrigued and interested in Biochar. This explains my research interests in studying and exploring the physiochemical properties of biomass and the pyrolysis factors such as temperature, residence time, rate of heating etc. that influence and shape the physiochemical properties of the biochar. This understanding of the properties of biochar has helped me understand the different applications of biochar and biochar modifications. So far I have applied my knowledge of biochar in modifying its properties such as by impregnating it with the oxides of iron and using it as an adsorbent in water, especially to remove heavy metals. I am interested in furthering my understanding of the complex interactions when biochar is added to different soil types and in different climatic conditions.
In addition, I also love to popularise the concept of biochar, with a focus on students and people from multidisciplinary and non-research backgrounds. This could be seen in an opportunity I took to mentor (as their technical partner) a group of students from dept. of commerce, Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), in setting up a commercial unit for the production of biochar in Karnal and Gurdaspur districts in Haryana. In the wake of global climate change and the dwindling agricultural productivity of India, I believe Biochar has a huge potential in strategising climate adaptions.
Other courses that have been taken up from time to time are as follows:
Certificate in Teaching and Learning in IB Diploma Program from OISE, Toronto University.
Certificate course in resource management, environmental auditing and LCA from CII.
Certificate course, IGCSE, Cambridge, Environmental Management.
