About
Dr. Sangeeta Bhattacharyya, Social Scientist (Senior Scale) at Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has made significant contributions in the field of social science through development of indices, models, extension methodologies, concepts, strategies pertaining to rural development; agricultural & allied extension, HRD & impact assessment. She is the Lead Developer of Five-Pronged Structural Framework of Model Village, Multi-dimensional Scale for Measuring Stakeholders’ Perception of SAGY Programme, CART Methodology for Delivering Customized Citrus Advisory Service and co-developer of Policy Brief for Enhancing the Export Potential of Nagpur Mandarin which earned her 4 Technology Certificates from ICAR. She is the co-developer of CitriHub Mobile App, Pocket Diary of Identification of Citrus Pests Diseases, produced 2 Video Films, standardized citrus rejuvenation technologies, CPRV model for doubling farmers’ income, six-pronged strategy for higher Gross National Happiness Index. During her scientific career of just 7 years, she handled 9 R&D projects (PI-6, Co-PI-3). She published 37 research articles, 7 books, 11 chapters, 11 training manuals, 33 popular/technical articles and 7 extension leaflets/folders. She has 3 copyrights to her credit. She received fellowships during her academic period throughout, and after joining the service, she also received many outstanding awards at various conferences including the Young Scientist Award of Mobilization Society in 2025. She is also an excellent orator delivering radio talks and invited lectures frequently. She was also engaged in teaching & designing courses for IARI Nagpur Hub students. At the institutional level, she is Nodal Officer of different committees involved in the Institution building activities. She was Co-organizing Secretary of National Citrus Symposium 2025 & Agro-Industry Meet 2024 of CCRI. She organizes training programmes routinely as course coordinator. She is the academic editor of reputed international journal PLOS ONE, reviewer of Springer Nature, SAGE & is in editorial boards of national journals. She completed her B.Sc. Agriculture Hons. from Visva Bharati University, West Bengal, with Merit Fellowship and Gold Medal and M.Sc. in Agricultural Extension Education from ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal with Silver Medal and Merit Fellowship. Her M.Sc. thesis on “Conceptualisation and Standardisation of Indicators for Evaluating Model village in Farming Perspective” received Best Thesis Award. She completed her Ph.D from ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa, New Delhi where she was a UGC - JRF fellowship holder and Topper of her batch and Gold Medal Nominee. She has research interests in the field of agricultural extension, rural development, socio economic impact assessment, training and HRD, gender aspects in agri-horti-food systems, climate vulnerability and other aspects encompassing agri-social science domain.
