Dr. Nishikant A. Raut is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and serves as the Director of Innovations, Incubation & Linkages at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, India. With 21 years of professional experience, Dr. Raut has made significant contributions to the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
Dr. Raut completed his undergraduate studies at Nagpur University in 2000 and earned his master's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2002. He achieved his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from RTM Nagpur University in 2010. Furthering his academic journey, Dr. Raut pursued post-doctoral research at the College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, under the prestigious Raman Post-Doctoral Fellowship awarded by the University Grants Commission, Government of India, during 2016-2017.
His expertise spans various domains including Natural Products, Medicinal Plants and Phytopharmaceuticals, Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Solubility Enhancement of Pharmaceuticals. In collaboration with Dr. Gail Mahady, he investigated the effects of resveratrol and anthocyanins in novel transgenic medaka lines specifically developed for osteoporosis research.
Dr. Raut has an impressive publication record, with numerous articles in national and international journals, book chapters, and three books published with Elsevier. He holds three granted and three published patents. His research endeavours have been supported by several federal funding agencies, amounting to a total of ₹1 Crore. Dr. Raut has supervised over 48 postgraduate and 10 Ph.D. scholars. He was honoured as the "Best Researcher" for the year 2020 by RTM Nagpur University.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Raut played a crucial role as Co-Principal Investigator (Research) and served as the Nodal Officer of the COVID-19 Diagnosis Centre at RTM Nagpur University, which conducted over 125,000 RT-PCR tests, aiding the government’s efforts to combat the virus.
As the Director of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Dr. Raut has revitalized the department, launching numerous skill-based and need-based courses in alignment with NEP-2020. To date, he has initiated over 150 courses under the Jeevan Shikshan Abhiyan, more than 50 courses under the Continuing Education Program, and 18 skill-based courses as per Section 112 of the Maharashtra Public University Act 2016.
