About
Prof. Yogendra K is Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Environmental Science at Kuvempu University, where he also serves as Director of the Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Board, and heads the School of Earth & Environmental Science. He is a leading expert in environmental chemistry, water quality assessment, and photocatalytic nanomaterials for ecological remediation.
With more than 125 research articles in reputed national and international journals, Prof. Yogendra K’s scholarship spans riverine ecotoxicology, limnology, water remediation, and sustainable campus projects. He has supervised over 11 Ph.D. candidates and a post-doctoral fellow, contributing widely to education, curriculum development, and scientific outreach.
Prof. Yogendra K has forged key institutional partnerships, establishing Memoranda of Understanding with the National Centre for Biological Sciences–TIFR (Bangalore), CEE (Goa), EMPRI (Government of Karnataka), and Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd. for the "Bottles for Change" campus plastic recycling initiative. His collaborative research includes international projects on plant photosynthesis and climate adaptation with Dr. Rakesh Tiwari (Uppsala University/University of Birmingham) and microclimate/ecosystem studies with Dr. Caroline Greiser (University of Stockholm).
A pioneer of sustainable campus transformation at Kuvempu University, Prof. Yogendra K initiated the Susthira Steel Cutlery Bank (to reduce single-use plastics), introduced electric vehicles in partnership with Panaji Midtown Rotary Club (Goa), and launched the Eco Cycle program for students.
He is the founder of the Susthira Eco-Club and Honorary President of the Susthira Senior Environmental Science Students’ Association, driving community engagement and environmental awareness.
Prof. Yogendra K’s contributions have been recognized with awards such as the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Parisara Ratna, Senior Scientist Award, and Best Researcher in Environmental Science. His profile reflects a commitment to excellence, collaboration, and sustainability in academia.
