Dr. Dipankar De, MD, is a Professor of Dermatology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. A distinguished clinician, educator, and researcher, Dr. De has made significant contributions to dermatology, particularly in the fields of autoimmune bullous diseases, acne, pediatric dermatology, eczemas, cutaneous lymphomas, oral diseases, and lichen planus.
Dr. De completed his MBBS from Calcutta Medical College, Kolkata in 2000, followed by an MD in Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology from PGIMER, Chandigarh in 2005. His career at PGIMER has spanned over two decades, progressing from Resident Teaching Fellow to Professor. He also pursued specialized training in autoimmune bullous diseases at the University of Lübeck, Germany.
In addition to his academic appointments, Dr. De has played key leadership roles in national and international dermatology organizations. He is the Editor (2025–2028) of the Indian Dermatology Online Journal, former Associate/Assistant Editor of the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology, and an active member of multiple editorial boards and professional societies including the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, American Academy of Dermatology, and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India).
A prolific researcher, Dr. De has authored over 300 indexed publications, many of which focus on autoimmune bullous diseases. His dedication to advancing dermatology has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Prof. L.K. Bhutani Award (2018), the Prof. J.N. Shetty Memorial Oration (2023), the Dr. B.C. Lahiri Memorial Oration (2024), and the Prof. Ganapati Panja Memorial Award (2024).
Committed to medical education and clinical excellence, Dr. De has also guided award-winning research theses and served as convener for multiple national task forces, including those on eczema, pemphigus, and dermatology education.
Through his clinical practice, research, and leadership, Dr. Dipankar De continues to advance dermatology in India and globally, shaping evidence-based guidelines and mentoring the next generation of dermatologists.
