I have a Ph D in chemistry and since 1986 held different academic positions in department of chemistry, sardar patel university, Vallabh Vidyanagar , Gujarat till 2021. My research interests are: soft matter: micelles, gels and emulsions, copolymers, ionic liquids, surfactants, polymeric dispersants, nonreacting nonassociating binary and ternary liquid mixtures: thermophysical properties, experimental and semi empirical approaches, correlations, biomaterials derived from plants etc.

Academics: As a member and Chairman of Board of Studies in Chemistry in the
university as well as several other universities in the state, lot of reforms and
changes were made to the structure, syllabus and examination pattern etc in M. Sc chemistry programs with specialization in organic, physical, inorganic, analytical and industrial polymer chemistry. The recasting of the above in the light of semesterization and CBCS have been a challenging job and as a senior member guided the other colleques for the transformation. The curriculum was designed with defined program outcomes, course outcomes and learning outcomes. Several courses in the subject of Physical Chemistry (both theory and practicals) have been designed in the light of UGC model curricula, CBCS template and also other competitive examinations. I have also served as paper setter and examiner in the SET exams of Maharashtra and Gujarat and Advisor for UPSC, New Delhi.As a leader of the team, helped the university to establish a novel and innovative Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Science and Technology (CISST) to start futuristic Programs of M. Sc. In Biomedical Science, Earth Science, Defense Science and Bioinformatics etc from A.Y. 2014. These programs are developed with active collaboration from scientists from PRL, Ahmadabad, SAC, Ahmadabad, AIIMS, New Delhi and PSM College, Karamsad. DST, New Delhi appreciated this initiative. A separate building was constructed withgenerous contribution from SPU Alumni . Helped the Department of Pharmacy, SPU in getting the recognition for M.Pharm programs by the AICTE, new Delhi and PCI, Ahmadabad. As a Dean (in-Charge), Faculty of Engg. and Technology, Sardar Patel University, guided the members of adhoc boards for revising the syllabus at B. Arch, Bachelors in Interior Design and Urban Development. Regulations were also framed to initiate the research work in these areas. Assessment and evaluation process have been fine tuned in the light of UGC – CBCS system. Online mode of teaching and examination have been developed and implemented since covid days. M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry program was conceived and implemented from A.Y. 2019. New integrated bachelors – masters programs in applied chemistry, applied physics, materials science, electronics and applied mathematics are designed along with detailed syllabus as per the provisions of NEP - 2020 namely multiple entry and exit and academic bank of credit provision since A Y 2021.
Research: Published research papers in journals of national and international repute with high impactful contribution as judged by citations and h-index. More than 3500 citations have been received with a h-index of 34 (Scopus) 38 (Google scholar), one of the highest in the university and top five in the state universities of Gujarat. In recognition of this, invited as Reviewer for many reputed international and national journals to recommend papers for publication. As a nodal officer of DST – PURSE program visualized and established a Central Instrumentation Facility housing sophisticated equipment for research to all the research scholars of this university. The PMB of DST, New Delhi rated this as Excellent Implementation. Created similarly a sophisticated central facility in the Department of Chemistry, as Coordinator of UGC CAS programs (I and II) and Chief Coordinator of UGC - CPEPA programs respectively at Department of Chemistry. These efforts resulted in quality research publications and in the improvement of h-index of our faculty, university and its standing among other top Indian universities.
Administration: Served as Prof. and Head, Department of Chemistry, Sardar Patel University for five a year period of Aug. 2016 to July 2021. Served as Coordinator
of UGC CAS Program (Phases I and II), UGC – Center for Potential of Excellence in Applied Polymers and DST – FIST programs. Nominated as Govt. Nominee by the Govt. of Gujarat on the Syndicate (2006 – 2009 and 2015 to 2018), Senate (2007 – 2012 and 2012 to 2014).
