About
Mukul Chandra Paul completed doctoral degree in Fiber Optics from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 2003. He received MSc (Inorganic Chemistry) from University of Burdwan in 1989. Presently, he is working as a chief scientist (Professor-AcSIR) at the Fiber Optics and Photonics Division, Central Glass & Ceramic research Institute, Jadavpur, Kolkata-32 (INDIA) where he has been employed as a Scientist since 1997. He has been engaged in the field of development of different specialty optical fibers for more than 20 years. His significant contributions/achievements in R & D area involved development of various novel glass composition based specialty optical fibers codoped with Er2O3,Yb2O3, PbO, CaO, Sc2O3, Y2O3, Li2O, ZrO2, Cr2O3, HfO2 , Al2O3 , GeO2, P2O5, Ce2O3, Al2O3, and Bi2O3 etc made in India indigenously as well as development of fiber based photonics devices and components such EDFA for CATV applications, high power optical amplifier, CW and pulse lasers at 1.0 miccron, 1550 nm and 1.9 micron, distributed feedback (DFB) fiber laser , broadband fiber based source etc. using such kind of specialty optical fibers under active participation of several industries such as M/s. SFO Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Kochin, M/s. Vinvish Technologies Pvt.Ltd. Trivandrum, M/s. Sahajanand Laser Technology, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, M/s. Bharat Electronics Ltd(BEL), Bangalore etc funded by various various Defence Labs such as: Laser Science and Technology Centre (LASTEC)-New Delhi, Defence Lab Jodhpur (DLJ), Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, Kochi for the benefit of CSIR Society/Environment/Nation. In 2005 he received the BOYSCAST Fellowship from department of Science and Technology (DST). He also awarded for CSIR Technology Award - 2012 (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & Technology, India) for “Development of completely packaged commercial-grade C-band Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) for CATV and Telecom Networks”. In 2013 received ‘DST-UKIERI Award-2013’ to initiate joint collaborative research work on ‘Active multicore components for next generation optical communications and sensing’ with Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh , UK. He also received ‘CSIR Technology Award-2015’ as a group member for the Category of Innovation to develop “Completely packaged all-fiber supercontinuum light source” . In 2018, he awarded for Indo-Prtugal collaborative research work under DST. In 2019, received ‘senior visiting scientist award’ by National Taiwan University of Technology (NTUT), Taiwan. He received ‘CK Somany Award for Innovation and Technology’ by All India Glass Manufacturers’s Federation (AIGMF) in 2020. He was elected to the position of Adjunct Professor at Airlangga University, Indonesia in 2021. He is a member of Optical Society of America, American ceramic society, IEEE and life member of Material Research Society of India and Indian Ceramic Society. He is a editorial member of several International journals such as New journal of glass and ceramics (NJGC), International journal of advanced nanomaterials, International journal of materials science research , Journal of Materials Science and Engineering Progress etc. He has published more than 200 number of papers in SCI journals and Conferences. He also published 7 Book chapters. He holds 7 US patents and filed 4 Indian patents. He is involved to several collaborative project with different countries such as UK, Russia, Mexico, Malaysia, Portugal, France etc. He also played project manageable role serving as project leader engaged different sponsored projects under DST, DRDO, DIT etc with total funding more than 5.0 Core , under CSIR sponsored projects in the category of NMITLY, Mission-mode project, FTT project, Network Project ect. with funding more than 7.0 Cores as well as project from private organization with funding more than 75.0 lakhs.
