About

Dr. Rajesh Kumar Ulaganathan is a specialist in nanomaterials and devices, with particular expertise in the growth of two-dimensional (2D) single crystals and the fabrication of advanced electronic and optoelectronic devices. His research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and device integration of emerging low-dimensional materials for next-generation technologies. He has a lot of experience making high-quality single crystals and thin films of different 2D materials using advanced growth techniques like chemical vapor transport (CVT), the Bridgman technique, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), pulsed laser deposition (PLD), and solution-based synthesis methods. His expertise also includes micro- and nanofabrication technologies, especially lithography-based device fabrication, which allows the creation of field-effect transistors (FETs), photodetectors, van der Waals heterostructures, flexible electronics, and other functional nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices.

Dr. Rajesh earned his B.Tech. degree in biotechnology with distinction from Anna University, India, in 2008. He subsequently obtained his M.Tech. degree in nanotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India, in 2010. He completed his Ph.D. in 2016 from the Nanoscience and Technology Program, Department of Chemistry, National Taiwan University (NTU), Taiwan, where his doctoral research focused on advanced nanomaterials and device applications. Following his Ph.D., he served as a postdoctoral researcher at several departments and research centers within National Taiwan University from 2016 to 2021. He then joined the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) as a senior postdoctoral researcher, where he conducted advanced research on nanomaterials, device engineering, and renewable energy technologies from 2021 to 2023. In 2023, he returned to Taiwan and worked as a research specialist at Academia Sinica until 2024. In September 2024, he joined the Centre for Nanotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India, as an assistant professor.

In recognition of his scientific achievements and contributions to Taiwan's research ecosystem, Dr. Rajesh was awarded the Taiwan Employment Gold Card in 2022 and the prestigious Plum Blossom Card (Permanent Resident Status) in 2024 by Taiwan's National Immigration Agency. He was also honored with the Junior Research Investigator Award (2024) from Academia Sinica. Dr. Rajesh actively contributes to the global scientific community through editorial and peer-review activities. He serves as an editorial board member of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio) and as an associate editor of Frontiers in Coatings, Dyes, and Interface Engineering. He has also been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Young Scientist Award at an international conference and the Best Researcher Award (2026) from AMET University for his outstanding contributions to nanoscience, nanotechnology, and advanced materials research. Throughout his career, Dr. Rajesh has established strong international collaborations across Asia and Europe and continues to pursue interdisciplinary research in 2D materials, energy harvesting, flexible electronics, optoelectronics, and next-generation nanoelectronic devices. His research vision is centered on translating fundamental discoveries in nanomaterials into scalable technologies that address global challenges in energy, electronics, sensing, and sustainable development.
