About

Ms. Kanika Bharti is a Research Scholar at the Department of Chemistry at IIT Roorkee. I recently submitted my thesis on "Syntheses and application of gold-based nanomaterials utilizing selective metals as reducing agents." I completed my Undergraduate degree from the University of Delhi in 2015 and my Post-graduate degree in Chemistry from IIT Mandi in 2017. My research interest focuses on developing new synthesis methodologies for gold-based nanomaterials at room temperature and their utilization for biological applications.
During my Ph.D. I have utilized metals such as Mn, Zn, and Fe as reducing agents to reduce gold precursor replacing the conventionally reported reducing agents such as hydroquinone and hydroxylamine. Gold iron oxide nanocomposites and gold zinc oxide nanocomposites were synthesized using redox-mediated synthesis where metal acts as a reducing agent and metal source. Modification and optimization were performed to enhance their performance for various applications, control size, and composition, and obtain interesting morphologies and properties such as magnetic and luminescence. Besides, pH-dependent reduction potential for Mn metal powder was explored to obtain anisotropic gold nanoprism. Kinetic studies were performed to evaluate rate constant values using the KJMA model and correlate them to obtain optimized conditions for gold nanoprism.
My contributions to the synthesis of nanocomposites and the application of gold-based nanostructures exemplify my keen interest in material science and nanotechnology.
