About
Research Experience and Research Interest: Involved in the field of Mammalian Reproductive Physiology and proposed a molecular mechanism for sperm storage which is one of the unique aspects of bat reproduction. We are first to demonstrate the role of androgen in prolonged sperm storage in the female genital tract of S. heathi and showed androgen via non-genomic MAPK signaling pathway stimulate Bcl2 (anti apoptotic) in utero-tubal junction. These new findings on sperm storage may help in understanding of the mechanisms behind adaptive sperm storage. It may also generate practical outcomes such as the ability to develop successful long-term, but non-cryogenic, sperm storage methods for use in reproductive technologies.
We also demonstrated the adiposity associated impairment of testicular physiology in bat. Risk of obesity is alarming in recent days. This study will add new information on adiposity associated impairment to male fertility. At present we are involved in the regulation of testicular physiology under different conditions such as heat stress, diabetes and environmental toxicant and trying to find out possible improvement of these conditions by phytochemicals. Also involve in metabolic regulations of steroidogenesis in gonad. Recently we have started to work on testicular aging in induced aged rat model.
