Md Alquamar Azad
National Institute of Rock Mechanics, Banaras Hindu University, Jaiprakash Associate Limited
About
Dr. Md Alquamar Azad is a distinguished engineering geologist and geotechnical researcher with expertise in tunnel stability, landslide risk assessment, and numerical modeling in complex terrains. Holding a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Delhi-India, he specializes in 2D/3D geotechnical simulations, rock and soil mechanics, and natural hazard mitigation.
Currently a Project Scientist at the National Institute of Rock Mechanics, Bengaluru, Dr. Azad leads R&D on tunnel safety and slope stabilization, partnering with national agencies to enhance infrastructure resilience in the Himalayas and other sensitive regions. His prior roles include Postdoctoral Fellow at Banaras Hindu University and Geologist at Dilip Buildcon Limited, contributing to major projects like the Ummedapura–Nayagaun (Twin tube tunnel 21 m dia) under Bharatmala Pariyojana.
His research integrates empirical, analytical, and numerical methods, with notable contributions in rock mass classification, tunnel support design using NATM, and landslide mitigation. He has published extensively in Springer, Nature Scientific Reports, and Elsevier, advancing machine learning and modeling in engineering geology.
