About

Prof. (Dr.) Debarshi Mukherjee is an alumnus of Visva Bharati, Santiniketan (an Institution of National Importance and a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan. He is a Professor in the Department of Commerce & Business Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He is a peer team member of the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru. He is a visiting consultant to the Department of Panchayats & Rural Development, Govt. of Tripura. He was a Full Professor and Head (for two consecutive terms) of the Department of Business Management, Tripura University (A Central University), and the founding Head- In-Charge of the Department of Tourism Administration. He was also a member of the Tripura University Court. He has established Tripura’s first business incubator fully funded by the Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India. He was the State Coordinator of the AICTE-sponsored Student Induction Programme for Tripura. He has been nominated by AICTE as a mentor for newly inducted technical education teachers and as an expert for AICTE’s NEAT 2.0 initiative. Having specialised in the information systems domain, his research interest lies in developing blended learning models to realise the objectives of Education 4.0 and ICT intervention in tertiary education, ensuring learning continuity. Besides teaching and academic administration, he has worked extensively in curricula design and innovative andragogy development over the last two decades. He has been granted an innovation patent on a utility model titled “An adaptive message and student online learning system” from the Federal Republic of Germany. His endeavor in research has earned him over 150 publications to his credit. He has worked on many funded projects sponsored by NABARD and the ICSSR, in addition to offering consultancy services to clients such as Manipal Global Education Services. He has delivered over 175 invited talks and chaired technical sessions at many conclaves, including IIT BHU, Delhi University, NIPER Hyderabad, Dhaka University (Bangladesh), Mirwais Neeka University (Afghanistan), the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Tripura, and Jai Narayan Vyas University, Jodhpur, Govt. College Hosangabad, Madhya Pradesh, Reserve Bank of India Agartala, and ICBT 2021, Istanbul Turkey. He was also a trainer for the NAMCABS & ADEPT programme of the Reserve Bank of India, Agartala. Ten doctoral students have earned degrees under his guidance, including one international student. He has conducted many leadership and motivational sessions with the management students and teachers at various institutions, including AICTE and MHRD-sponsored Faculty Development Programmes and Refresher Courses. He has also deliberated on different radio & television shows in Tripura, Bangladesh, and the USA. He also writes regularly for newspapers and news portals on contemporary issues. He has been nominated as an expert for research project evaluation for 2022–23 by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. He has also been nominated as a Drafting Committee Member to prepare the Vision Document 2047 for the Govt. of Tripura. He has also advised the Directorate of Skill Development, Govt of Tripura, to develop skill-based training modules to promote tourism in the state.
He has recently published a book titled Rural Livelihood Development in Tripura: An MGNREGS Experience (adopted as a reference book in the MSW programme of Periyar University, Salem, TN (A NAAC A++ State University)), and an edited volume titled PURVOTTARAN—THE RISE OF NORTH EAST: Paradigms of Development in the VUCA World was published by Bloomsbury, and the foreword of the books was written by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Govt. of Tripura. His latest book, Exploring Social Intelligence: New Education Policy 2020 was published in March 2024.
