Recently, he has been nominated as member of National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), which is one of the oldest and the most prestigious scientific body of India.
Dr. Asimul Islam has contributed to the problems relating to the "protein folding", namely:
1. Determination of protein stability (G0, the standard Gibbs free energy change) under physiological condition (dilute aqueous buffer at 25 ºC
2. Determination of protein stability in the presence of crowding agents that mimic the environment of the protein in the cell
3. Development of excluded volume theory that explains how additives can affect protein stability
4. Mechanism of stabilization of proteins by naturally occurring osmolytes
5. Characterization of folding intermediates such as molten globule and pre-molten globule
6. Prediction of protein stability and function of hypothetical proteins using tools of bioinformatics
7. Molecular docking and MD simulation studies.
8. Characterization of proteins related to neurodegeneration.
9. Protein aggregation and protein misfolding.
