Dr. Nawaz Sarif Mallick
TCG Crest, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, University of Calcutta
About
Nawaz earned his PhD from IIT Guwahati with a specialization in coherent interaction of electromagnetic (EM) fields with atoms. He is an expert in atomic coherence-based phenomena, which influence the absorptive and dispersive properties of atomic media, facilitating the precise generation and control of electromagnetic fields in both space and time.
As of now, Nawaz has published 19 peer-reviewed articles.
His research interests include vortex beam generation, orbital angular momentum of light, microwave electrometry, four-wave mixing, and non-linear frequency conversion. He also focuses on topological charge detection, precision measurement, electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), light storage and retrieval, as well as structured beam generation and beam shaping. His research holds great potential for applications in quantum communication and quantum information processing.
Nawaz has spent two years as a CHANAKYA Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Light-Matter Interaction Lab of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics Kolkata. During his time at SINP, Nawaz conducted experimental research on realizing broadband quantum memory using the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) technique in a rubidium (Rb) vapor medium.
Nawaz is currently working as a Senior Project Associate at the Centre for Quantum Engineering, Research and Education (CQuERE), under TCG Centres for Research and Education in Science and Technology (TCG CREST). At TCG CREST, he is involved in developing and assisting in the optical setup for Raman laser systems, supporting experiments related to cold atom gravimeter and atomic clock.
Nawaz was recently awarded the ANRF National Post-Doctoral Fellowship by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). At TCG CREST, his research will focus on developing a portable atomic clock for GPS-denied navigation systems: an important step toward advancing precision timing and navigation technologies.
