About
Vetriventhan Mani is a Genetic Resources Scientist, in the Genebank at International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), based in Hyderabad, India. He has about 10 years of experience in plant genetic resources. He obtained his PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics from TNAU, Tamil Nadu, India. He works on germplasm curation of sorghum, pearl millet and six small millets (namely finger millet, foxtail millet, proso millet, kodo millet, little millet and barnyard millet), and related research for efficient conservation and enhanced utilization. His main research focus is to enhance the use of germplasm in crop improvement, such as forming germplasm subsets, germplasm gap identification, characterization, evaluation, identification of promising trait-specific germplasm sources, developing genetic and genomic resources etc. Prior to joining ICRISAT, he worked as a Scientist (Plant Breeding) for about two years at the Directorate of Seed Research, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Uttar Pradesh, India. He has about 100 publications including research papers, reviews, and book chapters, guided 5 MSc and 5 PhD Students, and several interns.
