About
Dr George Biswas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology at Presidency University, Kolkata, India. He is a geoscientist specialising in hydrogeology, hydrogeophysics and sustainable water-resources management. His research focuses particularly on the structure and functioning of basaltic and other hard-rock aquifer systems, groundwater recharge, aquifer characterisation, groundwater-potential mapping, monitoring-network design and the assessment of groundwater recovery and sustainability.
He integrates field hydrogeology with electrical resistivity methods, remote sensing and GIS, hydrogeochemistry, statistical analysis and multi-criteria decision-making. His broader research interests include managed aquifer recharge, groundwater responses to climatic and anthropogenic stresses, uncertainty-aware groundwater assessment, and the development of scientifically defensible tools for groundwater exploration and management.
Dr Biswas earned his PhD in Geology (Physical Sciences) from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, with research conducted at the CSIR–National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad. His doctoral research examined structural and functional variability in diverse basaltic aquifers. He teaches and mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students and contributes to interdisciplinary and international academic initiatives. His recognitions include the AcSIR Best PhD Thesis Award in Physical Sciences and the Dr S. K. Ghosh Memorial Young Scientist Award. He has also contributed to technological innovations involving environmental and water-quality monitoring.
