She started her academic career in 1976 as a faculty at the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore. Publication record started fright from 1977 and has continued till now. She initiated many projects spanning 45 years, such as HypeCAL (Hypertext-based Computer Aided Learning System; Vidyanidhi Digital Library. WikiGyan, Internet Safar, and others.
She is an institution builder and founded the first iSchool in India called the International School of Information Management at the University of Mysore with munificent grants from the Ford Foundation and industry partner Informatics India Limited. in 2005 She also founded the MYRA School of Business in 2012
