About

Dr. G. Rodrigues is a Senior Scientist and a Researcher and was working at the Inter University Accelerator Centre (An autonomous institution under the University Grants Commission), New Delhi, India. He received his Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Madras (2015), India. In the years 1999-2000, he was involved in designing the ion optics of a low energy ion beam facility based on a 10 GHz NANOGAN, fully permanent magnet, ECR ion source and final commissioning of the facility. The ion source was configured to run on a 200 kV high voltage platform for performing low energy experiments related to Materials Science and Atomic and Molecular Physics. In the years 2001-2003, he was involved in the design and testing of the World’s First High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) at Caen, France in Collaboration with Laboratoire de Physique Subatomique et de Cosmologie, Grenoble, France and with Scientific Magnetics, Abingdon, U.K. This ion source is presently being used as the Injector for the High Current Injector Programme. He was involved in commissioning of the High Current Injector Programme and heading the beam transport division of the accelerator complex. He evolved a new concept, facilitating a Direct Injection Scheme for Coupling of a High Performance ECR ion source in close proximity with a Radio Frequency Quadrupole Accelerator for extraction of intense, heavy ion beams. This technology off-shoot was accomplished in close collaboration with the late Prof. Dr. Reinard Becker of Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany and author of the popular IGUN code for ion extraction. His research interests includes: ion sources, specifically the design and development of microwave and electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion sources; microwave and ECR plasma studies ; design of room temperature and superconducting magnets; related cryogenics; ion beam optics modelling using various codes and beam transport. Modelling and computation using various sophisticated codes in the fields of Accelerator Physics and Technology is one of the skills which he has learnt and mastered. He has taught and guided students undergoing Ph.D training programme and many students have completed their Ph.D thesis work. He has 30 scientific articles in peer-reviewed, international journals and 44 communications at national and international conferences.
