About
I am currently a scientist based at Narayana Nethralaya Foundation, Bangalore. I graduated with Bachelors in Dental Surgery (BDS) from The TN Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai, India. I then went on to do my graduate studies in National University of Singapore (NUS). I worked on dental biomaterials for my Masters (MSc) in Restorative Dentistry and in “Cellular and Molecular Immunology” for my doctoral degree (PhD) in National University of Singapore (NUS). I continued my research career as research fellow at NUS and at the University of Liverpool, UK where I was working on tumour biology and immunological basis of adverse drug reactions. I have moved back to India to pursue my research interests in India. Currently, I am pursuing my academic/research career path primarily investigating immune-mediated pathologies of the eye including neurodegneration. In addition, my work also involves biocompatibility and immunotoxicity studies of novel biomaterials. Recently, I am also involved in studying signalling in craniofacial research anomalies. I have co-authored over 30 research articles in peer reviewed international journals including Journal of Biological Chemistry, Clinical Immunology, Advance Functional Materials and Nature Reviews. I have presented our teams' work at various international conferences and have also won a travel award from Biochemical Society (UK). I am an enthusiastic teacher and was actively involved in lecturing and mentoring students both in Singapore and in the UK and now I continue the same in India. I firmly believes in evidence based learning, and translational (bedside to bench to bedside) and preventive approaches in medical sciences.
