Dr. Usha Rani is the Head of Department of Healthcare and Hospital Management and Coordinator for Manipal Health Literacy Unit at PSPH, MAHE, Manipal. She is a Respiratory Therapist with post-graduation in Hospital Administration and a Ph.D. in the area of 'Infection control and prevention through system process mapping and re-engineering the process. She has worked on Infection prevention and control among neonates and developed antimicrobial policies. She has published more than 30+ scholarly publications indexed in Scopus & Web of Sciences and has obtained 2 international grants, and also holds number of IPRs.

She has completed 80+ projects and organized 40+ National and International conferences and workshops in healthcare. She is a member of the board of study (BoS) for various Universities.

She is an accomplished professional with an extensive background in quality management and healthcare certifications. She is a certified auditor for QMS ISO 9001:2015 and EMS ISO 14001:2015 and holds NABH-POI certification from the Quality Council of India. Anexas Europe has certified Dr. Rani as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, demonstrating her expertise in process improvement and operational efficiency. Her commitment to advancing her knowledge in health research is demonstrated through her certifications in qualitative methods in global infectious diseases research and digital health from McGill University, Canada. Additionally, she holds a certification in Good Clinical Practice (ICHGCP), emphasizing her adherence to international clinical research standards.

Dr. Rani's active involvement in professional organizations includes being a Life Associate Member of the National Neonatology Forum, a Life Member of the Epidemiology Foundation of India, and the Academy of Hospital Administration. She is also a member of the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO), underscoring her dedication to healthcare excellence and continuous professional development. She is also the awardee of the Individual Research grant by the International Society for Infectious Diseases and is the recipient of the Young International Health Literacy Award 2018 by the Asian Health Literacy Association, Taiwan. The AHLA Network Achievement Award in 2022 recognized her significant contributions to health literacy, and the Anexas Innovation Excellence Award for her PhD research recognized her innovative initiatives on infection prevention and control in healthcare.

Currently there four ongoing PhD's under her supervision.
