About

Mirza Salim Beg obtained his B.Sc. Engineering. (Hons) from AMU, Aligarh; Master of Engineering in Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; PhD from Loughborough University, England. His teaching and research interests lie mainly in the area of Mobile Communications & Computing including 5G / 6G systems, Wireless networks, Internet of Things, Wireless Sensor Networks, Multimedia Communications, Computer Networks, Consumer Electronics, and Social Communications. He has supervised 50 post-graduate theses (including doctoral theses) to successful completion. He has about 200 research publications in journals and conferences of repute. This includes 10 papers in IEEE Transactions (USA). A lot of his recent research has been related to multimedia transmission over mobile / wireless networks. He also holds a granted patent. He has worked on collaborative projects with personnel from industries such as Motorola, Lucent and Alcatel. He has also been the coordinator of several sponsored R&D projects funded by AICTE, MHRD, UGC etc. He has been the Deputy Coordinator and then the Coordinator of the UGC sponsored Special Assistance Programme on ‘Signal Processing Applications in Networked Multimedia” during 2004-2009. He has delivered a large number of short courses and pre-conference tutorials in several countries. From 1997 to 2002 he was at Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, Malaysia and where he was also the Chairman of the Center for Multimedia Communications.

He has been the Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology; a Professor at Department of Electronics Engineering, AMU, Aligarh; and he has also been Chairman of the department for 3 years. He was the Convener (Conference Chair) of International Conference on Multimedia, Signal Processing, and Communication Technologies (IMPACT-2009) which was technically co-sponsored by IEEE UP section as well as by IEEE Circuits & Systems society, USA; and the General Chair of IMPACT-2013.

He has been a passionate teacher, dedicated researcher and closely oversaw various top level University administrative works. He has been Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) till October 2024. The faculty includes Z. H. College of Engg. & Technology (for B. Tech, M. Tech, and Ph. D. degrees) , University Polytechnic (for Diploma level courses in various streams), Women's Polytechnic (for Diploma level courses in various streams), & Community College (Vocational programs of various levels).

He has superannuated from AMU, Aligarh. After superannuating from AMU, he continues to advise, collaborate, & consult on a part-time / freelance basis. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at LKC Faculty of Engineering and Science, Kajang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
