Dr. Valarmathi Subramaniam
A seasoned media professional and academic, Dr. Valarmathi Subramaniam brings a wealth of experience to her role as Head of the Visual Communication Department at Vels University, Chennai.
Her career began in New Delhi after graduating from the Tamilnadu Government Film Institute with a specialization in sound engineering. From 1993 to 1996, she honed her skills as a video editor for major television networks including Star Plus, BBC, SONY, and Zee Network.
Returning to Chennai, Dr.Valarmathi further diversified her expertise, editing numerous film trailers and TV program promos. Her passion for education led her to pursue a doctoral degree at Padmavathy University, Thirupathi, while simultaneously contributing to the literary world with two published Tamil poems, two novels and one english poem book that won prestigious Emily Dickinson award.
Dr. Valarmathi Subramaniam, Head and Associate Professor of the Department of Visual Communication at Vels University, Pallavaram, has brought pride to Chennai by winning the 21st Century Emily Dickinson Award for her first English poetry book, "Nature’s Mirror: Reflections in Versus". Published under Book Leaf Publications, this book is the result of Dr. Valarmathi Subramaniam's participation in a poetry writing competition held in memory of the famous American writer Emily Dickinson, in which participants had to write 21 poems in 21 days. Dr.Valarmathi, a prolific author of numerous English research articles in media communication, now unveils a different facet of her talent, giving life to these poems by intertwining her profound love for nature with the nuances of human existence, marking her English literary debut.
Her first novel "Gramathu Kalakkaran: Semman" received the "Proud Creator" award in 2021 at the Bharathiyar Illam from great grand daughter of Magakavi Bharathiyar.
Dr.Valarmathi’s career reflects a dynamic blend of creative talent, technical proficiency, and academic pursuit. She is a published author, an experienced media professional, and a dedicated educator, making her a valuable asset to Vels University.
