Dr. Arvind Mathur, an astute physician and popular teacher, has been actively engaged in teaching, clinical work, and health research for the past 47 years. A pioneer in Geriatric Medicine in India, he is widely recognized for his leadership in medical education, public health policy, and healthcare innovation.

Dr. Mathur completed his MBBS and MD (Internal Medicine) from the prestigious Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur, earning academic distinctions throughout his studies. He was awarded the Talent Search Scheme Senior Research Fellowship by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) during his postgraduate studies and has undergone advanced training across multiple domains of medicine, including HIV care and geriatric health.

He held several senior positions with the Government of Rajasthan, ICMR, and the Ministry of Health, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including his tenure as Principal & Controller of Dr. S. N. Medical College and Medical Superintendent of Hospitals.
Currently, as Director of ACMERI, Dr. Mathur leads initiatives to advance medical education, research, and healthcare delivery, with a special focus on improving the quality of life for older adults.

Leadership in Geriatrics and Public Health
• Played a pivotal role in the National Consultation for the National Program for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE).
• Nodal officer for the establishment of the Regional Geriatric Centre at Dr. S. N. Medical College, expanding geriatric education facilities in India.
• Founder and Past President of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics (IAG) and current Editor of the "Journal of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics".
• Established the School of Public Health in the region, advancing public health education.

Contributions to HIV and Community Health
• Developed HIV care services and established an Anti-Retroviral Therapy Centre, transforming it into a national training hub.
• Founded the Infectious Disease Institute at Jodhpur.
• Worked closely with People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLHA) to develop community support services, reduce stigma, and promote rehabilitation and social integration.

Research and Publications
• Principal Investigator for several WHO and Government of India projects on ageing, including the SAGE Pilot Study and its sub-studies.
• Authored several influential publications, including:
“IAG Handbook of Geriatrics” – a key resource for undergraduate medical students.
“How to Care for Sick and Elderly People”, published in English, Hindi, and Tamil.

Initiatives in Caregiving
• Founded the Caregivers Asha Society, dedicated to improving the quality of life for both family caregivers and care recipients through skill-building and education.
• Established the ACMERI ASHA Care Skill Institute, offering specialized training programs for caregiving professionals.

International Recognition and Engagement
• Member of multiple WHO Expert Groups:
WHO Advisory Group on Integrating the Health and Care Workforce
WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing (CCHA)
WHO Global Network on Long-Term Care (GNLTC)
• Represented the Caregivers Asha Society at the UN Summit of the Future in 2024.
