About
Dr. Vineet Kumar earned his M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees in Microbiology from Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut, India. He completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Microbiology from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (A Central University), Lucknow, India. He is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, School of Life Sciences, at IIMT University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. His research primarily focuses on wastewater treatment and metagenomics, with a strong emphasis on developing sustainable and effective approaches to mitigate the environmental impact of refractory pollutants present in wastewater and sludge. As a Postdoctoral Fellow (2022–2026), Dr. Kumar is investigating the role of biofilm-forming microbial communities in both in situ and ex situ remediation of pulp and paper mill waste as well as microplastic-contaminated textile wastewater. Dr. Kumar has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed international journals of repute, 24 books, 60 book chapters, and 04 conference proceeding articles on various aspects of science and engineering, with more than 6000 citations and an h-index of 45 (Google Scholar). Dr. Kumar has been serving as a guest editor and reviewer in more than 110 prestigious international journals. He has received prestigious fellowships, including the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship by the University Grants and Commission, Govt. of India; the National Postdoctoral Fellowship (ANRF-NPDF) by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (earlier SERB), Government of India; and the DBT Fellowship under the Research Associateship (DBT-RA) Program of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, demonstrating his commitment to environmental research and education. He has received the Young Environmental Scientist Award (2018) in international conferences. He has been recognized among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in 2023 and 2025 by Stanford University.
