About

Dr. Lata, has contributed immensely in the area of agro waste management, bioremediation and biofuel production from lignocellulosic biomass. She has developed and commercialized a promising consortium of hyperlignocellulolytic fungi for rapid bioconversion of agroresidues to produce high quality compost. Her team has identified a novel lignolytic micromycete Myrothecium roridum and developed a process for biological delignification of paddy straw. She has generated a first time report on utility of secretome of plant pathogenic fungus Phoma for saccharification of lignocellulosic biomass. Her group has developed indigenous enzyme cocktail of hydrolytic enzymes for deconstruction of lignocellulosic biomass for production of bioethanol. She has published first report on the involvement of Serratia marcescens and Streptomyces rocheii in the bioremediation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
Dr. Lata and her team has made original and well recognized contribution in nutrient management in rice-wheat cropping system through formulations of bacteria and cyanobacteria as synergistic bioinoculants for both the crops and conclusively demonstrated the involvement of microbes in biofortification of cereal grains with iron and zinc. She has to her credit, several research projects of national importance, 215 publications in reputed journals and one Patent. Her scientific contributions are regularly cited by the scientist worldwide. She is also actively involved in teaching and guidance of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. She received IARI Best Teacher Award in 2004 for outstanding contribution to Post Graduate teaching. She is also member of national level committees of various government departments and editorial board of peer reviewed journals. Dr. Lata is also Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Science and Academy of Microbiological Sciences. She is also recipient of AMI-Prof. G.S. Rangasamy award for her outstanding contributions in Agricultural Microbiology. She has also been listed among Stanford top 2 percent scientists list continuously from 2021 to 2025.
