Silent Achievements:
a) Technology/ Varieties
Three new varieties of mungbean were developed and identified for Uttar Pradesh and NEPZ.
1. IPM 512-1 (Soorya): Developed from the cross IPM 99-125 /Co-5 Suitable for spring cultivation in NEPZ, mean yield 14-15 q/ha, highly resistant to MYV disease, Cercospora leaf spot and anthracnose, matures in 65-70 days
2. IPM 312-20 (Vasudha): Developed from the cross IPM 03-1 X SPS 5, this genotype exhibited >18% superiority over the best check IPM 99-125 in U.P. State Adaptive Trials 2014-17. This variety has been identified for cultivation during Spring season in Uttar Pradesh and its release proposal is to be submitted.
3. IPM 409-4 (Heera): The genotype IPM 409-4 has been developed form PDM 288 x IPM 03-1 and it performed consistently better over the best check IPM 99-125 in U.P. State Adaptive Trials during Spring season. It also has extra early maturity (55 days) and has green, medium large (3.5g/100 seed) and shining seed. This variety has been identified for cultivation during Spring season in Uttar Pradesh.

e) Donor/Genetic stocks identified
a) Identified a stable donor viz., IC360831, IC340947 and IC341739 against BCMV resistance and very soon it may register at NBPGR gene bank as recommended by institute GIC committee.
b) Identified a cold tolerant genotypes viz.,IC340910, IC340947, EC40047 and IC356057 under filed condition.
C) PGR management Total of 2000accessions of Rajmash/Common bean were rejuvenated and maintained at IIPR pulses gene bank unit in medium term cold module (4°C with relative humidity 40 %). The part of germplasmaccessions was shared with research workers in the country through proper means by material transfer agreement (MTA) file. Among 1789 accessions, 600 accessions were evaluated for morphological and agronomic traits and identified some of the traits specific accessions for breeding programme.
Other research activities
1. Identified BCMV disease resistance donors in rajmash genotypes under Uttar Pradesh condition over three year of disease screening both under field and controlled environment.
2. Identified cold/ frost tolerant genotypes in germplasm accessions of rajmash
3. Collection, conservation and characterization of > 500 germplasm accessions of rajmash and most of the collections were from foothills of Himalayan region and Uttarkhand region.
4. Developed different generation advanced breeding material for various target traits improvement particularly biotic and abiotic stresses.
5. Breeding programme for improvement of common bean crop has been accelerated, since from last threeyear we evaluated 500 germplasm accessions for biotic stress tolerance under multiple locations (ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur, NBPGR, regional station, Shimla andICAR-IIPR, regional station, Bhopal) in consecutive seasons.
6. We had a very strong collaboration with NBPGR, regional station, Shimla in hilly valleys of Himalayan region for anthracnose disease screening (hotspot for fungal disease) and rapid advancement of breeding material during offseason.
7. Identified 21 promising donors resistant to multiple diseases including anthracnose through meticulous disease screening technique in multi location environment. Some of these genotypes having desirable plant traits such as early maturity (<80-90 days), high pods per plant, high pod length, more number of seeds per pod and high seed yield (Kg/ha).
