About
I have been a faculty member at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS, BHU) since 2007 and a researcher in infectious diseases. I have played a pivotal role in transformative advances in kala-azar treatment, including the introduction of single-dose liposomal amphotericin B and multidrug therapy. These strategies were later adopted by the World Health Organization and India’s National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, with findings published in The New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. I led India’s Phase I clinical trial of a leishmaniasis vaccine and has been a key leader in an NIH-sponsored research program for over 15 years.
As Program Director of the Centre of Excellence in HIV Care, I have implemented innovative interventions that significantly improved patient outcomes, including routine cryptococcal antigen
screening, HPV testing, and detection of antiretroviral resistance mutations in treatment failure.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I served as Nodal Officer at BHU and chaired the COVID- associated fungal infections study group, leading research that advanced the understanding and management of COVID-19–associated mucormycosis.
I have authored >150 publications, with > 7,600 citations, h-index of 43.
I am a National AIDS clinical expert, and a member of the Technical Resource Group for the National AIDS Control Organization, and contributes to ICMR guideline development.
I am A Fellow of the Indian College of Physicians, Royal College of Physicians (London), and National Academy of Medical Sciences. I have
served as Head Department of Medicine (2018–2021), and have established the Division of Infectious Diseases.
I am expert member in many National programs and task force.
Member of the task force of SERB-IRHPA National Biosafety Level-3 Facilities (BSL / ABSL 3) in 2022.
Member of the Screening Committee for “SERB-SUPRA” in 2021.
National Expert Consultant of API for developing National Action Plan on Antimicrobial resistance AMR 2.0 in 2022.

I have been closely associated with Association of Physicians of India, Clinical Infectious disease society f India, Association of Physicians of India, UP chapter & Varanasi Chapter. I have regularly contributed to Medicine update published by Association of Physicians of India since 2004. I have been invited to deliver lectures in many National and state conferences (APICON, UPAPICON, TROPICON, CIDSCON, HIV congress) and CME. I was the Organizing Secretary of the Annual Conference of Clinical Infectious Disease
Society of India, CIDSCON in 2016 and has been scientific secretary of UPAPICON 2018, 2007 and UPDACON 2013, Infectious Disease Update 2024. I am the founding executive member of UP chapter of
CIDS in 2025. I was also a Governing Body member of UP chapter of API from 2018-2024 and currently the Vice president of API Varanasi Chapter and Organizing Chairperson for UPAPICON 2026. I have guided/co-guided more than 30 post graduate and 10 PhD theses. I received the first clinician travel award by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 2023.
I have regularly imparted public awareness program in HIV, tuberculosis, Antimicrobial resistance and held screening camps in nearby villages on non communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension.
