About

Sanhita Sinharay completed her Masters from Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Madras, Chennai, India in Chemistry and then Ph.D. from University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA in the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. During her Ph. D., she pioneered the development and translation of a class of non-metallic Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (CEST) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) contrast agents for enzyme activity detection within in vivo mouse models of ovarian, colon and pancreatic cancer. These studies evaluated the potential of these CEST MRI agents to non invasively monitor enzyme activity levels in tumors and correlate it to tumor aggressiveness, aid in optical surgical navigation and study responsiveness to chemotherapy drugs based on enzyme-inhibition. Following Ph.D., Sanhita did her post doctoral research in the area of neuroimaging of infectious diseases such as HIV, SIV, Cerebral Malaria, Ebola and Marburg at Radiology and Imaging Sciences department, Clinical Center, NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA. These studies focussed on the development of biomarkers and understanding of neuropathology of infectious diseases, often pre/-post-treatment methods with positron emission tomography (PET) and MRI. Following post doctoral research, Sanhita was a Junior Faculty (Research Instructor) at Cancer Systems Imaging, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA. Recently, Sanhita joined Indian Institute of Science, IISc Bangalore as an Assistant Professor and her lab focusses on development and translation of early biomarkers of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases using optoacoustic imaging and MRI methods.
