About
Dr. Senthil Kumaran Selvaraj is an Associate Professor at Vellore Institute of Technology-VIT University in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. He previously served as Head of Department in Mechanical Engineering and Research Director at RVS Educational Trust's Group of Institutions, Dindigul, India. He has worked in various engineering institutions for over 14 years. He has supervised undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD research scholars in various fields such as friction welding, brake friction materials, additive manufacturing, experiment design, tribology, non-traditional machining processes, and composite materials.
He completed his research in Friction welding process improvement at the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. His research interests include advanced solid-state welding processes, materials and metallurgy, composite materials and quality management, unconventional machining processes, optimization, material characterization, and mechanical behaviour of materials. He has written 14 different book chapters in Nanotechnology, Nanocosmetics, Corrosion, Total Quality Management, and Materials Science, and has published over 175 International reputed Journals and 102 International conferences. His contributions to the research work include Genetic Algorithms, Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, and the Design of Experiment Techniques in Quality Improvement of Manufacturing Processes, among other things.
He is currently working on a DRDO-funded research project called Development and Characterization of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Cermet Brake Pad (CBP) containing Nano Encapsulated Lubricant for Achieving Better Tribological and Braking Performance, which will run from 2020 to 2023. He is currently focused on two consulting projects: developing an autonomous seed planting bot system for agricultural applications and developing a wheel centre using additive manufacturing techniques. In 2014-2017, he completed a SERB-DST funded project titled An Investigation on Friction welding of SA 213 Tube to SA 387 Tube Plate Using an External Tool. In 2014-2017, he completed a SERB-DST funded project titled An Investigation on Friction welding of SA 213 Tube to SA 387 Tube Plate Using an External Tool. He has filed four patents and organised 36 FDPs, workshops, guest lectures, and attended 93 different programmes such as short courses, FDPs, and workshops. He received the best professor award from the Lions club in 2017 and achieved in 2017 from the International Organization of Scientific Research and Development (IOSRD). He has received the Young Scientist Award from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), and New Delhi in 2014. Also, he received 39 outstanding reviewer awards and recognized the reviewer award from Elsevier journals. He was a lifetime member of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), Indian Welding Society (IWS), International Association of Engineers (IAEng), International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI), DAAAM International: New Membership, Franklin Membership, International Association of Advanced Materials, World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology Membership, International Academy for Science & Technology Education and Research (IASTER) and International Research Engineers and Doctors (IRED).
